senior companion program
The AmeriCorps Seniors Senior Companion Program (SCP) is a volunteer program that connects individuals (age 55 and older) with older adults who have difficulty with daily living tasks. The purpose of this program is to provide assistance and companionship to older adults making sure they can live in their own home as long as possible, while maintaining their dignity and independence. The program offers a tax-free stipend of $4 an hour, mileage reimbursement, accident and liability insurance while serving, recognition, and opportunities to socialize.
Eligibility requirements:
Income: The program is designed for lower-income individuals.
Willingness to Volunteer: You should be willing and able to volunteer to a set number of hours per week. Typically, this is around 5-40 hours per week.
Physical and Mental Health: You must be in good enough health to participate in the program, as the role involves working directly with individuals 55 and over.
Background Check: All SCP volunteers must pass a background check, including a criminal history check.
Commitment to the Program: You should be committed to working with seniors, providing support, transportation, and companionship
The MOVRC sponsors the program in Barbour, Berkeley, Braxton, Brooke, Cabell, Calhoun, Jackson, Kanawha, Lewis, Marion, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Monongalia, Raleigh, Randolph, Ritchie, Roane, Taylor, Tucker, Upshur, Webster, and Wood Counties.
The Senior Companion Program is a part of the AmeriCorps Seniors program, which is administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) in the United States.
