The Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) is designed to generate employment and improve the general economy of its geographic area of Barbour, Brooke, Doddridge, Hancock, Harrison, Marion, Marshall, Monongalia, Ohio, Pleasants, Preston, Ritchie, Taylor, Tucker, Tyler, Wetzel and Wood counties.

The possibility of doing business with the Government offers an enormous potential for small businesses seeking to expand their markets and increase their profits. The Federal Government is a multi-billion dollar (approximately $300 billion annually) procurer of various products and services. However, only a small percentage of the U.S. businesses are sharing in this huge market, and those who are seem to be getting less than their fair share.

The PTAC provides FREE government contracting assistance services at its offices in Parkersburg and Wheeling, WV. The staff helps decipher the maze of government contracting through various means, including, but not limited to: identification of government agencies that buy particular products or services, obtaining opportunities of what government is buying now, assistance in locating subcontracting opportunities and locating teaming partners and vendors, providing prints of microfilm drawings from aperture cards, providing copies of government and military specifications, sponsoring trade shows, workshops, seminars, and conferences, placing companies on appropriate databases including PRO-Net and Centralized Contractor Registration, providing information and support of EC, and providing contract support through receipt of payment, including bid and proposal preparation.

The PTAC, a state affiliated agency, is funded by the Defense Logistics Agency, the State of West Virginia and some regional large and small businesses.
