The mission of the Ritchie County Economic Development Authority is to promote responsible and balanced growth that will maintain and improve the quality of life in Ritchie County. As an arm of the Ritchie County Commission, and is the county’s lead community and economic development agency. It is governed by a 21-member board of directors representing the commission, the county’s six municipalities, business, industry, labor and the non-profit sector. The staff includes a full-time executive director, a part-time secretary, and contracted project managers as needed.

The RCEDA focuses the majority of its resources on four major areas: business support, community planning, grants, and specific projects.

Business Support: The RCEDA works with a wide range of governmental, private and non-profit providers to support existing and start up businesses in the county. The RCEDA connects businesses with planning services, workforce training, funding packages and technical support. The RCEDA works closely with the MOVRC to develop funding packages for businesses. The RCEDA also maintains an inventory of available commercial and industrial sites and buildings.

Community Planning: The RCEDA Board of Directors addresses the county’s challenges and opportunities at its monthly meetings. The organization has established close collaborative relationships with most county agencies. The RCEDA helped organize the four-county Possibilities Forums, one of which is based in Ritchie County. The organization also helped Ritchie County successfully apply to be one of the Federal Home Loan Bank’s Blueprint Communities for West Virginia, which will help the county strategically plan for its future.

Grants: The RCEDA assists the county commission, municipalities, schools, non-profits and others in meeting their financial goals. This effort includes grant research, writing and administration. The RCEDA subscribes to GrantStation, an Internet-based grant research tool, and makes that resource available to county organizations and agencies. The RCEDA also assists the MOVRC in the execution of infrastructure projects in the county.

Specific Projects: The RCEDA, with its partners both in and outside of the county, identifies, initiates and implements projects and programs that address the community ad economic development needs of Ritchie County. These have included tourism development and marketing, retiree attraction, housing, the creation of a county community development corporation, the development of a strategic plan for education and technology enhancement in the county, participation in the Federal Home Loan Bank’s Blueprint Communities Program and others.
